Mourning in America

Once again we have failed as a society. Tragic failure where a young life was taken because we continue to resort to the way of the gun. Be it first impulse or last resort, be it Glock, taser, or strangle hold, our dependence on physical restraint of the body in this materialistic world is ludicrous.

A young man is dead. A woman's career ruined and disgraced all because we do not give our police officers the tools they need to incentivize people to respect and obey the law.

On being a good person Aristotle says:

"So this very general virtue, being a righteous {or ethical person} isn’t just one part of being a good person. It’s really the whole of being a good person. And it’s opposite, being unrighteous, isn’t part of being a bad person. It’s the whole of it."

We will never force people to do good. Not at gunpoint.

What if the officer had the option to simply impound the vehicle? To retrieve it the man would have to answer his outstanding warrants. Why was it even necessary to detain him? What if it was not his vehicle? No problem. When the registered owner shows up to seek retrieval of his or her property, the friend they lent it to must accompany them and answer the charges against them. We must prove our system of justice is worthy of people's faith and trust. But...

Not unless and until Black life becomes more sacred than the laws we use to form society will we see an end to this tragic violence.

Might does not make right.
